The list building basics is a good place to start. Thank you for sharing.
Hi jPaul- Yep the list is basic but critical.
Hiya Elizabeth, This is a very indepth and knowledable amount of things to know. Many thanks for sharing this. Came across you through LinkenIn today.
Kind Regards
Lincoln aka LK
Hi Lincoln- you are welcome, glad you found me on LinkedIn – nice to hear from you.
I like how you presented the material. Nice touch adding in the environmental aspect. However we have started sending postcards to those tier 1 fans because so many people are inundated with emails that we find the postcard gets through and is saying “you’re worth something to me’
Hi Carol,
Thank you for your comment. You make a valid point. I think the best campaigns are the ones that work – post cards are very effective once people are opted in to your list because you already have established a relationship with them. EE
Hey, thank you for sharing this with the world. Independent artist need more people like yourself to be born into this world of music and thrust into the spotlight. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that you are on the side of the having good intentions for artist when all the smoke clears. Thanks
Hi Quintus,
Welcome to my blog, I too am an artist, I also have a marketing background. I hope what I teach is helpful to you:)
Thanks for continuing your great free classes, info etc. Your a fantastic resource of info on the biz!
Thank you.
Excellent! continue to keep me informed.
do i own my list on reverbnation, or should i use aweber?
Great question David – if you can export your list and move it to another list management company or just save it in a file, then you own your list. More specifically, If you can access the name and the email and the person it belongs to asked to be on the list, those are the essential pieces of info that you need to answer “yes” to in order to determine that you own the list. With Reverbnation – you do own your list.
Some excellent advice here. Thanks Elizabeth.
Thanks for all the information you provide. VERY helpful!
Very helpful as with all your advise.
thanks!
Great resource!!!
Thank you for presenting knowledge ‘every’ serious entertainer needs to know!
Very helpful
Thanks so much for this, its extremely helpful and though provoking.
A list/regular mailout is something I really haven’t done. I have collected email addresses, but I’m wondering how I can start a list with these addresses. I don’t want to just subscribe people without asking them.
Hi Mark,
If they gave you their email address at a gig or when discussing your music they have given you permission to subscribe them. If they have given you their email address for another reason, send them an email with a copy of your newsletter or whatever mailer you want to send and ask them if they would like to subscribe. Email management systems have many ways to approach this – some of my favorite email management systems for musicians are Fanbridge, Nimbit and MyNewsletterbuilder.com. Aweber is also very good but has stricter restrictions with opt ins. Always make the “opt in/opt out” obvious to your receiver. This protects you from being a nuisance and a spammer.
Thanks for the information, i really appreciate it.
Thanks for sharing these valid inside informations. They are very helpful.
thank you so much- very helpful.
Excellent point. Very important to keep the list growing.
Great info. Thanks for posting.
Important.
Thanks for the info. I’d like to see more of what you have to offer.
Will come back to this when i have more time.
Thank you very much for the posting. It has a lot of great ideas and I am going to try them to increase my self-distribution and my website’s audience.
Good advice that I will take up, my son and I run an independent record label looking to help and promote unsigned bands, this will be very useful to us and them, thanks.
good stuff
Thanks for your time and effort to inform us.
Grateful for any information that helps me figure this thing out. Thank you, for the comment about the likes and twitter follows.
Thank you for your insight!
Thanks i will read it !
Nicely done. In addition to helping to build the list, I was wanting to see if yourself or anyone has had success using surveys to gain more fans. Specifically, for an artist to submit a song out to their social media friends, and for them to give feedback if they like a song or not. This would also give them the option of signing up to be a fan and or wanting to hear more about the music. Thanks.
Yes I have used surveys for CD covers – get feedback and have people who like my music participate in my process. I like http://www.surveymonkey.com
good info, that music was awful, however….please consider using something more modern sounding
It’s all about the list!!
Great info.
